In early 2010, acclaimed singer/songwriter Rebecca Loebe was not so acclaimed. She had not yet released her breakthrough album Mystery Prize, had not yet appeared on The Voice, and not yet toured across The United States, Europe, Japan, and The UK. All that would come later.
She had recently heard a story on NPR about migrant workers separated from their families and was immediately inspired to write a song. The resulting tune, Marguerita, is a love song that explores the passion and sacrifice required to labor long hours in difficult conditions to support loved ones that one never gets to see. The song first appeared on her 2010 release Mystery Prize, and has been a staple of her live show ever since
Over the past decade, Rebecca has built a loyal, grass-roots following performing an average of 150 concerts per year in over 40 states of the US and 15 countries. Along the way, she’s released three more full-length studio albums which feature many collaborators and themes that can be traced back to her early work on Mystery Prize.
To commemorate the ten year anniversary of this fan-favorite album, Rebecca has returned to the studio to revisit a handful of its songs - including Marguerita - with a few of her favorite new and old collaborators. The resulting six song EP, The Mystery Prize Acoustic Sessions, is being released exclusively on Noisetrade. Proceeds will help support RAICES, the largest immigration legal services non-profit in Texas, which focuses on under-served immigrant children, families & refugees.
